Walter “Wally” J. Nagel, son of Frank Nagel and Emily (Kuhs) Nagel was born on September 21, 1925 in Chicago, IL. He and his two sisters June (the late Alfred) Schubkegel and the late Dorothy Alejandra were orphaned as small children, being cared for by relatives. At the age of 9 moved to Concordia’s German Lutheran Orphanage in Addison where he stayed until he turned 14. He attended Concordia for high school and spent summers learning the farming trade in Missouri. He attended college prior to being drafted to proudly serve in the Army Air Corp as a ball turret gunner during WWII.
After returning from the war, Wally met the love of his life Beatrice Noer. They were blessed with 68 years of marriage and cherished the time spent with his five wonderful children, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was a passionate, forgiving man who loved his family fiercely and did all he could to take care of each and every one of them.
Wally and Bea were faithful members of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Chicago. He served on the Church Council, and as a member of Couples club where they found many lifelong friends. His favorite pastime was fishing with family and friends, anytime and anywhere.
On January 23rd, 2022, at the age of 96, after a long bout with cancer, Wally peacefully passed into the loving arms of his Savior. He will be greatly missed, yet we rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ who conquered death for us by His death and resurrection. Because He lives, we too will live.
