Marjorie Ruth (Borcherding) Bredehoeft, 89, departed this world to be with her Lord in the glory of heaven on October 10, 2024. Marj was born in Latimer, Iowa on June 18, 1935 to Carl and Verna Borcherding. She was the youngest of five children who all grew up on their family farm on the outskirts of Latimer. Marj attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School in Latimer before leaving home as a high school freshman to attend Concordia Lutheran High School in Seward, Nebraska. Continuing on to Concordia Teachers College on the same campus, she met Erich Bredehoeft who was also a student at Concordia. Marj and Erich were married on July 28, 1956 and moved to Souix City, Iowa where they worked and served at St. Paul Lutheran Church and School. In 1960, Marj and Erich relocated to Royal Oak (Detroit), Michigan and began to raise their family at Our Shepherd Lutheran Church and School where Erich taught 7th grade and served as Music Director and Organist. In early 1969, they relocated again to Downers Grove (Chicago), Illinois and then a short distance north to Roselle, Illinois in 1970 where they worked and served at Trinity Lutheran Church and School and built a house just a few blocks away. At Trinity, Marj served as a frequent substitute teacher and librarian. She loved to sing alto in the church adult choir at every stop she and Erich made throughout the years, and she was renowned for her perfect pitch! After Marj’s children left the “nest” for college and beyond, she attended Wheaton College for a couple of years and then eventually took a customer service position with First Eagle Bank in Roselle where she assisted new and existing bank customers for nearly 20 years before retiring in 2001 and being gifted by the bank with a trip to Hawaii!
Marj’s children, friends, and church family will always remember her as a willful and faithful servant, putting the needs of her family and others before her own. Her infectious laugh is remembered by all of her extended family, especially when she and her siblings would gather annually during their senior years. Marj was preceded in death by Erich (2014) and her four older siblings, Ivan, Arlene, Leon, and Ernelda. She is survived by her children, Scott (Tonya), Todd (Stacey), Jon (Graciela), Sara (Joe), her seven grandsons, Philip (Jenna), Kelvin (Taylor), Carter, Jimmy, Nick, Mark, Corey, and her three great granddaughters, Brooklyn, Ruby, and Marie. A “Celebration of Life” service to be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, 405 Rush St., Roselle on Wednesday October 16, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service all at the church. Interment will be held privately at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery.
