Jose (aka Joseph) Figueroa-Rodriguez, 91, died December 2, 2020 at Bella Terra Nursing Home in Streamwood
Illinois. He was born May 12, 1929 in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Jose was the son of Pablo Figueroa and Mercedes Rodriguez, beloved husband of Ines (nee Cruz), father of Carmen Cruz, Zoraida Serrano (Jose Nunez) and Yadira (the late Emanuel) Papacrist; dear brother of Carmelo Figueroa and the late Isidore, Pablo, Cecilia and Victor Figueroa; dear uncle of many loving nieces and nephews. He served proudly in the U.S. Army from 1949 to 1953 and participated in the military band where he got to display his innate musical abilities. He was a quiet, gentle soul with a big heart; his demeanor was stern but when he smiled/laughed he lit up the room. Great story teller and joker when he was around family and friends especially when we all had our “Bacardi” moments together! . He was passionate about his football, music and playing some awesome drums or “timbales” in his brother’s band. He also loved outdoor activities (fishing, hunting, gardening) and DIY projects that he enjoyed and kept him busy during his retirement. Throughout his life journey he optimized his many vocational and military skills to lead a very simple but meaningful life for him and his family
Jose gave us a solid foundation of love, integrity, self discipline and responsibility. We will always love and miss you dearly, rest in peace you gentle and beautiful soul.
