Yok Hong Lay, age 73, a servant of God was called home on May 30, 2024 in Bloomingdale. She was the 7th child of 9 siblings to Chhoeung Lay and Orn Say. She endured the cruel ruling of the Khmer Rouge from 1975 – 1979 and in late 1975 she was arranged to marry John Heng by the Khmer Rouge regime and together they have one daughter Cheng (Jane) Heng. In 1996, she made a selfless sacrificial decision to allow her only child to move to the US to be with her father. In Oct 2008, she relocated to Chicago IL to reunite with her daughter. She was a loving, compassionate and hardworking mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Together with her only surviving sister, Tan Lay, she raised her daughter and orphan nieces and nephews whose parents were killed/died during Khmer Rouge. She loved cooking, eating, and enjoyed spending time connecting with family and friends. Hong is survived by her daughter, son in law, Peter Chang, sister, Tan Lay, grandchildren, Ariella Sidney Chang, Ethan Isaac Chang, Anaiah Elyse Chang, 4 nephews and 5 nieces. We are grateful and blessed for the care provided to our mom by Northwestern Central DuPage Hospital and the amazing staff at DaVita Schaumburg Renal.
