Michael J. Nelson, 38, of St. Charles passed away in Geneva, IL on Sunday, July 7, leaving us far too soon. He was born in Elk Grove Village and spent his childhood in Itasca. He graduated from Western Illinois University, and was most recently employed as Operations Manager at Abbey Paving, where he was admired as a trustworthy and dedicated employee. Michael was the cherished husband of Colleen (née Kuta) whom he met at the South Side St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Together they became the loving parents of three adored daughters, Madelyn, Amelia and Juliana. He was a dedicated family man, devoting generous time and invaluable help to his mother, sisters and aunts. Any and every problem he encountered was tackled with tenacity and a determination to find a solution. A strong work ethic wove through every aspect of his life, personally and professionally.  HIs family was also treated to his playful nature and warmth, to the delight of his nieces and nephews. His ability to form long lasting friendships was a gift to the many who mourn the loss of his self-deprecating humor, Chicago Cubs and Bears loyalty, and a true love of music. With a determined effort to find the tallest Christmas tree that could safely fit into their home, Michael channeled his alter ego, “Clark Griswold”, while also producing an enviable display of holiday magic, truly a master of exterior illumination.
In addition to Colleen and his daughters, he is survived by his mother Josephine Nelson (née Blasi), his sisters Katherine (Anthony) De Trana, Christina (Mason) Smiedendorf, aunts Maria Spizzirri, and Theresa (Phil) LiVolsi, cousins Frank (Elizabeth) Livolsi  and Robert (Gina) Livolsi, and brother-in-law Jeffery (Nicole) Kuta. He is godfather and uncle to Giada and Anthony, and fond uncle of Rowan,
Vincent, Gianluca, and Evalena. His absence leaves our hearts with an incredible void that can never be filled. The world could use many more “Mikes”.

It’s so hard to see one of your childhood friends lose their life at such an early age. My condolences go out to Josephine and Mike’s wife and daughters, I can’t imagine your loss. I’m sorry I couldn’t come pay respects in person. I hope you rest in peace Mike.

I’ll miss you my brother. I wish we could have kept more in touch. I’ll miss our having fun as kids. Our homework visits to each others houses. I’ll miss hanging out with you and making fun of people and friends and having a great laugh. Even if living in Italy you never forgot my birthday, even this year. You would just post, you always cared enough to write me a message. Even this year! You have left us far too soon. I’ll miss you every day. You were my buddy as kids. I’ll miss you Mike. Domenico

Josephine, Colleen, Katie, Christina and family. Our hearts are broken with the passing of Michael. He always made us feel welcomed when we visited. His love and dedication for his family was obvious and it brought us comfort to see pictures of Michael interacting with Vinny & Giada when Mason was deployed. Sending our prayers & love.
