Laurence “Larry” D. Kruse, 73, died suddenly in Miami, FL on July 5, 2024. He is survived by his wife, Donna Kruse (Blackwood) of Addison, IL, his son David (Jennifer) Kruse of Elgin, IL and daughter Denise (Paul) Lambert of Fulshear, TX. Larry is the son of the late Ernest and Myrtle Kruse of Des Plaines, IL and the brother of Carole (Mark) Corrado of Schaumburg, IL. He is the proud grandpa to Amelia and Danielle Kruse. Larry is also an uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews, both in Illinois and Texas. Larry enjoyed a quiet simple retirement with his hobbies of woodworking, computer programming, watching movies, and listening to music. On any given day, you could always hear his favorite recorded bands playing in the background. Some of his favorite days were spent with his granddaughters. And he was proud to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary with Donna this month with a cruise out of Miami prior to his death. As a dad, Larry was always interested in and fully supported what his kids wanted to do and continuously challenged them to push themselves to their fullest potential. When David decided he wanted to be an auto technician, Larry bought him a project car and worked side by side with him to rebuild the engine from the ground up. He consistently challenged Denise with coded puzzles or mystery stories or problems that he would stop at a pivotal moment so that she had to guess the ending. As he saw Denise’s desire to continue her studies beyond her undergraduate degree, he proudly encouraged her pursuit of law school.

Larry’s family wishes to express their deep and humbling gratitude for the support, prayers, and many phone calls, text messages, and social media posts received from our family and friends. We are at peace with “how” Larry passed; it will take time to be at peace for “when” he passed.

Each day I love you more, more than yesterday, less than tomorrow. You left your name imprinted on my heart and it cannot be erased. The proof of our love lives through our children and grandchildren, and as I continue to love them, I continue to love you. But I’m finding it difficult to walk through days without you. So many times already, I look for you. I hear our songs on the radio, I feel your joy through your granddaughters. I panic when something goes wrong and I need you to fix it. I’ve even found myself calling you on the phone, only to hear your ringer in my purse. Given the choice between grief and nothing, I choose grief. And if grief is the price of love then let me grieve for 50 years.
