Ines Maria “Jeco” Cruz, 94, passed away on February 15, 2025, in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Born on February 26, 1930, in Utuado, Puerto Rico, Ines lived a life marked by resilience, love, and an unwavering dedication to family and friends.

As the matriarch of the family, Ines was cherished for her caring nature, compassion, and sharp instincts. She was always looking out for loved ones, extending herself in difficult times with determination and strength. While she had a sweet and nurturing spirit, she also upheld discipline and respect with a firm but loving hand.

Ines was an exceptional cook whose pasteles and arroz con gandules became legendary among those fortunate enough to enjoy them. No matter how much she made, it was never quite enough for those who adored her homemade meals. Beyond the kitchen, Ines found joy in fishing, hunting, gardening, embroidery, sewing—and even indulging in a little casino fun from time to time.

Throughout her life, Ines dedicated herself to caregiving, ensuring that those around her were supported and cared for. Despite the challenges she faced, she also made time to enjoy her hobbies and travel both locally and abroad. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering devotion to family.

Ines is survived by her brother Ernesto (Maria) Cruz; daughters Yadira Papacrist and Carmen L. Cruz; son-in-law Jose A. Nunez; grandchildren Ivelisse (Stacy) Vandergriff, Yadines (Eric Encarnacion) Nunez, and Vanessa Ortiz; as well as great-grandchildren Felix A. DeJesus, Jhan Daniel Rivera, and Marcos Julian Ramos. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Jose Figueroa-Rodriguez; parents Constantino Cruz Crespo and Josefina Rodriguez Duprey; daughter Zoraida Serrano; and siblings, Celida Maldonado, Gustavo Cruz, Alfredo Cruz, Roberto (Emma) Cruz and son-in-law Emanuel Papacrist.

Ines lived a full life filled with love and purpose. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. Rest in peace, beautiful soul—you will be missed beyond measure
