When I've lost a loved one, this poem has always helped my heart to not feel so heavy. Death Is Nothing At All Death is nothing at all. I have only slipped away to the next room. I am I and you are you. Whatever we were to each other, That, we still are. Call me by my old familiar name. Speak to me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference into your tone. Wear no forced air of solemnity or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me. Pray for me. Let my name be ever the household word that it always was. Let it be spoken without effect. Without the trace of a shadow on it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same that it ever was. There is absolute unbroken continuity. Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you. For an interval. Somewhere. Very near. Just around the corner. All is well.

The two way we know we have special people in our lives are how they make us feel when we're with them and how we feel when they're gone . Rest in peace

My husband and I loved talking to Gene all through the spring, summer, and fall while we did our gardening and went out on our walks. He was full of stories, jokes, and general life tips, and he spoke endlessly about his granddaughters--and we always enjoyed hearing the latest squirrel-count update! Every winter we missed seeing him, and lately we were looking forward to spring finally arriving and seeing him in the yard again. Life won't be the same without him there; his absence will be felt. He was the world's greatest next-door neighbor. I know how lucky we were to know him.

Bob and I were devastated to hear of Gene’s passing. Our love and prayers go out to Laura, the children and the grands. I used to love to hear Gene talk about his grandchildren - he would just light up - they were everything to him. I know that the entire family grieves, as does our Grand Bay family in Florida.
