Elizabeth “Betty” Jane Sciortino, 81, of Chicago, IL, passed away on March 18th, 2025, after a short but brave battle with cancer, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her own home.
Betty was born on May 31st, 1943, in Chicago, IL. She loved spending her time reading and discussing with her book club. Betty also had a flair for self-care, frequently treating herself to a mani-pedi, always choosing shades of pink or red to brighten her day. A lover of the water, she found great joy in swimming, of course with her pink water shoes, along with the beach being one of her favorite places. Lunchtime with friends and family was a cherished tradition, and she made many memories sharing meals and laughter with those closest to her. In recent years, Betty developed a special fixation for her beloved gnomes, collecting them with great enthusiasm and filling her house with them. Her life was filled with love, laughter, and simple pleasures, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
In June of 1964, she married the love of her life, Carmen A Sciortino, and together they built a beautiful family and a life full of love and laughter.
A devoted Mother to Carmen (Grace) Sciortino and Nanci (Todd) Gilstrap. She cherished being a grandmother to Austin and McKenna Gilstrap, as well as Angelina and Dominique Sciortino, and later, a great-grandmother to Weston Sciortino. She leaves behind not only her children and grandchildren but also countless friends and extended family members whose lives she touched with kindness and compassion.
In addition, Betty was also a beloved sister to John (Jean) Sheehan, William (Teresa) Boyer and Dorothea Janek. A sister-in-law to Dorothy (Art) Roberto, Maddeleine (Louie) Pinico, Mary (John) DiMaggio, Ann (Joe) Cangialosi, and Tom (Lorraine) Sciortino. She was a woman of strength, grace, and warmth, always willing to lend a hand and offer a listening ear. Her impactful presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Carmen Sciortino, who passed before her. Their love story remains an inspiration to all who witnessed it.
A private memorial will be held by her family to celebrate her life. Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and joy. She will be forever remembered and missed, but her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
