David J. Keefer, 89, passed away peacefully on March 14th. A hardworking and dedicated man, Dave was as a proud owner/operator of DK Cartage company for nearly 40 years. In his youth, he and his brother were avid caddies at several private country clubs along the North Shore. After high school, he embraced his love for the water, enjoying sailing and fishing, and captained fishing charters for his father’s company. Dave also served in the U.S. Naval Reserves for eight years and was honorably discharged in 1962. In 1985, Dave met the love of his life, Dorothy. They married in 1987, blending their families and creating a lifetime of cherished memories together. Upon his retirement, Dave found joy on the golf course during the summer and at the recreational center’s pool hall in the winter. Above all, he treasured time spent with his thirteen grandchildren, who brought him endless pride and happiness. Dave was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Keefer; devoted father of Gregory Keefer and Rose Brunner; Jim (Susan) Prochaska, Judy (Curt) Higgins, and Chris Prochaska. He was the loving son of the late Theresa and Guy F. Keefer and the dear brother of the late Guy Keefer (Carole). Cherished “Papa” to Joey, Marina, Adrinna, Arianna, Trevor, Troy, Jake, Ryan, Connor, Isabella, Jimmy, Vinny, and Jack. He was also a fond uncle to Guy W. Keefer, Teresa Goldstein, and Kathleen Huffhines.
Dave will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His kindness, humor, and unwavering love for his family will forever remain in their hearts.
